KOLBE RICKS

LIFELONG LEARNER, EDUCATOR, & RESEARCHER

I believe learning should be human-centered, experiential, and accessible to all. Whether I’m working with students, educators, or academic leaders, my goal is the same: to help people navigate educational systems with confidence and clarity.

For over 12 years, I’ve taught high school English, AP Literature, Creative Writing, and college-level courses, helping students strengthen their writing, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

Alongside teaching, I’ve worked as a curriculum developer, academic coach, and instructional leader—always with a focus on equity, student success, and making education more inclusive.

RESEARCH
& WRITING

My doctoral research explored how cultural capital shapes access and outcomes in AP programs—specifically, how systemic barriers affect historically excluded students and what we can do to build more equitable pathways.

THE FUN STUFF

Some of my favorite feelings: the push and pull of ocean waves, mud between my toes, and the light coating of dust on my skin after a day outside. I’m happiest when I’m moving, outside, and fully in the moment.

Travel has been a huge part of my life. I’ve visited more than 40 countries, lived abroad, and am always planning the next adventure. I love swapping stories and sharing recommendations. I also love language—Spanish is my second language, and I’m currently learning French.

Movement is non-negotiable for my mental health. You’ll find me bouldering, skiing, jet skiing, or chasing any kind of adrenaline rush. I like to feel alive in my body—it helps me stay grounded and clear.

And then there’s Formula 1. Sunday mornings usually mean coffee, croissants, and watching the race. I’m a Lewis Hamilton fan—not just because he’s a legend on the track, but because he uses his platform to speak up and make space for others..
